About Me - Katy O'Neil Handmade Ceramics and Ceramic Jewellery
I have been working with clay for over 30 years now and have enjoyed every moment with this versatile and exciting material. I have galleries and shops stocking my work throughout the UK - this list is expanding all the time! In the Summer months and during the run up to Christmas, I hit the road, and can be found at the leading Craft and Ceramics fairs around the country. Keep an eye on my Events Page to keep updated and to see if I’m going to be near you.
I am based in Lancashire and in my studio I create contemporary ceramic vessels, bowls and wall pieces, as well as a range of handmade ceramic jewellery. My ceramics are decorated with slips before being impressed with marks which are inspired by photographs taken whilst travelling extensively. I use splashes of colour to highlight the texture and mark making before firing to stoneware. Each piece is unique and is slab built with black clay, and are, for me, a celebration of form, material and mark making. The vessels will happily hold water if required.
My jewellery range is designed to be affordable and for everyday wear, whilst being distinctively handmade. All my pieces are created from black vulcan clay, finest black onyx or white porcelain. They are high fired for both strength and durability. The designs on the pieces are created by impressing the clay before being decorated with oxides, slips and glazes. My extensive range of stud earrings, in sizes tiny to large, are designed to provide a pop of colour to compliment your favourite item of clothing.
All the marks made on my work are created with man-made objects such as screws and nails found on the street, or from parts of circuit boards salvaged from abandoned electrical goods. This way of impressing marks into clay is a reflection of my long-held fascination with the concept of future fossils and how the throw away nature of modern life affects the land.
I hope you enjoy viewing and hopefully purchasing my work as much as I love making and developing it. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch and if you’d like to be kept informed about new work, future events or special, offers please sign up to my newsletter or follow me on Facebook or Instagram (I promise I don’t do an overwhelming amount of updates!)
Enjoy!
